2026 Worldwide Technology Championship: El Cardonal Course Preview & DFS Golf Picks

The PGA Tour heads to Cabo this week for a resort-style contest at El Cardonal at Diamonte Dunes. While this event has previously been hosted at the Mayakoba resort, I would not really spend any time looking at prior course history there, as El Cardonal plays in stark architectural contrast to the Greg Norman design. Mayakoba was one of the tightest, most accuracy-over-distance-biased golf courses on the PGA Tour, while El Cardonal is the complete opposite, featuring some of the widest driving corridors on the entire Tour. The golf course can best be aptly described as Black Desert meets Vidanta Vallarta. The Tiger Woods design displays another fun contrast to his former LIV counterpart in Greg Norman, and it is entirely apparent that this design is diametrically opposed to Mayakoba, and not necessarily in a good way. The Woods design opened in 2014 just outside Los Cabos and was the 15-time Major winner’s first official project as the lead architect. I certainly have some skepticism over Woods’ skill as an architect, and El Cardonal is one of the least architecturally intriguing courses on the entire PGA Tour. It is so incredibly wide that it is devoid of strategy, and I tend to be a huge fan of width in general – although more so for the amateur game.
