The PGA Tour heads to Japan this week for the Zozo Championship, the only current Tour event held in Asia. Accordia Golf Narashino will return as the host venue for its fourth year, and the Kinya Fujita design sits just outside of Tokyo. The event is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and Japan Golf Tour, and we will see seven players from Japan Golf Tour make up the bottom of the 70-man field. Tiger Woods won the inaugural event for his 82nd PGA Tour victory, and in the following year, Hideki Matsuyama eagled the final hole to win in his home country by five strokes. In the last two years, Americans Keegan Bradley and Collin Morikawa have triumphed. In all four years of the Zozo, we have seen a winner of 35/1 or lower, with an impressive list of champions in the event’s short history. Despite the long flight, the Zozo will once again feature the strongest field of the entire fall swing including defending champions in Collin Morikawa and Hideki Matsuyama as well as two-time major champion, Xander Schauffele. Justin Thomas, Max Homa, Sahith Theegala, Sungjae Im, and Min Woo Lee will also be in attendance. While I certainly prefer cut events, it will at least be fun to watch a few of the PGA Tour’s bigger names get some final reps in before the 2025 season.
